The holiday season can be full of many treats and temptations which can leave you feeling none too happy if you overindulge.
If you do overdo it, here’s a few common sense tips to help you get through the season:
• If you’re going to be enjoying a couple alcoholic beverages, remember that staying hydrated can stave away a hangover and help support your liver. Try alternating with nonalcoholic drinks such as water or non-acidic fruit juices
• If the damage is done and you wake up with a hangover or upset stomach, try sipping on a warm cup of ginger tea as ginger has wonderful anti-nausea properties
• Hair of the dog might temporarily ease your pain, but won’t do anything to help your liver detoxify and recuperate. Try to avoid alcohol for at least 36 hours if you are suffering a hangover.
Homeopathically, the following remedies may be of benefit to aid simple indigestion, hangovers and constipation. Use a low potency like 6CH or 12 CH. One pellet dissolved in a large glass of water can be sipped on throughout the day.
If your symptoms linger or were present before and are now intensified, it may be time to consider constitutional homeopathic treatment to get to the root of the problem.
Lycopodium helps those who develop a lot of stomach bloating, gurgling, rumbling and a lot of gas especially after eating too much fiber rich foods. They are worse by eating too quickly and by having tight clothes around the waist. They can better by loosening their belt and passing wind.
Nux Vomica is usually indicated for individuals who have overindulged in food and/or alcohol. This is the picture of the classic hangover where individuals feel worst when waking the morning after usually with headache, nausea and anger or irritability. There is the feeling that vomiting would make them feel better but it takes a lot of retching for anything to happen.
Pulsatilla should be considered for individuals who feel worse from overindulging in rich, fatty foods. They may experience nausea, headache and indigestion: especially overnight which can develop into heartburn, gas & belching.
